Illustrations and information on William Sherley Williams, or Old Bill Williams (1787-1849 ca.), a Santa Fe Trail scout, mountain man, and Fort Osage interpreter. Native of North Carolina raised in the Saint Louis, Missouri area in the 1790s and becoming a hunter and trapper in western Missouri by the 1801s, compiling a dictionary for the language of the Osage Indians and becoming the posthumous namesake of a town and mountain in Arizona near the Grand Canyon.
